In addition to weapons, physical skills, and related knowledge, the Training Division
ensured that several mental health and emotional crisis training were taught to enhance
officer awareness and handle situations properly.
PowerDMS Training
PowerDMS was an integral component of 2021 as it proved efficient and user-friendly
for multiple trainings during COVID in 2020. The Training Division was able to
disseminate presentations for Mental Health First Aid (sworn & civilian) and use of
force topics (Policy review, Excited Delirium/Agitated Chaotic Events, LEADS, Taser,
OC, baton & handcuffing) which were then followed up by topic-specific instructors on
a small group or individual basis to reinforce the information as well as meet the
physical Taser standard of deploying cartridges.
Professional Development Trainings
In 2021, the Training Division sent one hundred sixty-one officers to fifty-six separate
trainings, schools, classes, conferences, and seminars which included Suicide
Awareness, Autism training for Dispatchers, Peer Support, Mental Health, Officer
Wellness, Crisis Intervention, Justice Reform, Race & Justice, Biased Based Policing,
First Amendment Rights, Distracted Driving Enforcement, Advanced Roadside
Impairment Driving Enforcement (ARIDE), Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), De-
escalation, Use of Force, Use of Force Analysis, Force Science Analyst, LOCKUP Arrest
& Control, LOCKUP OC, baton & handcuffing, Weapon Retention, Less Lethal
Munitions, Ballistic Shield, Glock Armorer, Tactical Medicine, FAA Drone Pilot, Notary
Public update, Best Recruiting and Hiring Practices, Applicant Interview Techniques,
Background Investigations, Crowd Response, Technology Threats, Social Network
Investigations, Organized Retail Crime, Cryptocurrency Investigations, Gang
