Complex Improvement & Expansion
Many minor improvements were made
throughout 2021, including range clean
up, target repair, LED lighting
replacement on the Alpha range,
enhanced berm and retaining wall on
Bravo range, and large rollout exercise
mats (donated from Bain Middle School)
and AV updates to both classrooms.
The Cranston Police Training Complex is the largest multipurpose and most versatile
police training facility in Rhode Island that requires continual maintenance and
improvement. In addition to the Cranston Police, the Rhode Island Municipal Police
Academy and other police agencies use the facility consistently.
Departmental In-service Training
Each topic had the most current and up-to-date information, which allowed the
Cranston Police Department to provide some of the most comprehensive training in
the region. The course topics included:
• Implicit Bias • Use of Force
• LEADS (de-escalation program)
• Mental Health First Aid o Control tactics including
• Agitated Chaotic Events and multiple officer options
Excited Delirium o Taser
• CPR/AED o OC spray
• Narcan o Baton
• SFST/Breathalyzer o Handcuffing techniques
• Riot Control o Weapon retention
• Firearms- pistol & rifle o Legal decisions
o Policy review emphasizing
officer responsibilities,
especially the duty to intervene
