The objectives of the Professional Standards Office are diverse and numerous:
• Protection of the public trust
• Protection of the department
• Protection of employees
• Retention of corrigible employees
• Removal of unfit personnel
• Identification of training failure
• Identification of policy failure
Complaint Totals by year
The number of complaints received and investigated by the Office increased from
last year as can be seen in the table below. Seventeen of the twenty-five
complaints were received from citizens, while the balance was initiated internally.

PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS INVESTIGATIONS
The Office of Professional Standards investigated a total of twenty-five complaints
between January and December 2019. Twenty-one of the complaints have been
closed and four remain open, pending completion of the investigative process. It
is estimated that most investigations for 2019 will be closed by the end of the
month February 2020. Please see below a breakdown of the cases and the
investigative findings.
