                   • In 2019 & 2020, the number of DWI arrests declined. In 2021 the issue of

trying to increase the number of DUI Patrols was a goal achieved by:

o Making the DUI detail available on holidays at a higher rate than regular

Blue Riptide Details. The City of Cranston provides these additional

                              funds.

o Making the DUI details simpler by allowing officers to double up to share

the workload that is often associated with making a DUI Arrest

o Allowing officers to put in for a DUI detail with short notice instead of

                              limiting the availability.

o Ability to use a DUI Only Cruiser provided by the State of Rhode Island

                              Department of Highway Safety.

                   • The number of Fatalities increased by 5.

                   • Total number of crashes increased by 15% but was lower than past years.

                   • The total number of injuries increased by 24% but was lower than past years.

                   • Hit & Run reports increased by 24% but were lower than in past years.

                   • A comprehensive effort of continued Traffic Stops, improved road designs, and

community outreach/social media and education is probably the best chance to

reduce accidents in the City of Cranston.

o Examples of efforts to improve road design can be seen in the Traffic

Units' efforts to change the intersection of Atwood Ave at Wayland Ave.

An extensive traffic study determined that this intersection has been the
