Special Investigations Unit Statistics for 2020:
• Arrests: 24 (Assisted with an additional 17)
• Arrest Warrants: 9
• Search Warrants Executed: 12
• The Cranston Police Department SIU submitted 9 State forfeiture packages to
the Attorney General’s Office in 2020. Included in those forfeitures is
$83,443.00 in cash, 2 vehicles, several items of gold, and multiple items of
electronic equipment. All of the submitted cases from 2020 are still pending at
the Attorney General’s Office. We did receive transfers from the RIAG in the
amount of $11,003.76 and 3 vehicles were forfeited to the department in 2020
related to previously submitted forfeitures.
Federal Forfeiture Statistics:
• $85,487.44 was shared with CPD through the Federal Forfeiture Equitable
Sharing Program in 2020, with several cases still pending sharing decisions.
The Cranston Police Department Detective Division currently participates in multiple
state and federal task forces. Several officers who are permanently assigned to the
special victims’ unit, special investigations unit and criminal investigations unit are also
members of these task forces.
FBI Safe Streets Task Force (SSTF) (One Detective Assigned)
SSTFs focus primarily upon street gang and drug-related violence, address specific
violent crime problems through the teaming of federal, state, and local law enforcement
officers and prosecutors to conduct long-term, proactive investigations.
FBI Safe Streets Task Force Activity for 2020
Throughout 2020 the FBI SSTF was involved in several large, long term
investigations. These and other cases resulted in the following statistics for the
year.
