PowerDMS Trainings
PowerDMS was an integral component of 2020 as COVID prevented many in-person
trainings to take place or to continue even though they started as in-person. The
Training Division was able to disseminate presentations for Mental Health First Aid
(civilian version) and use of force topics (Policy review, Attorney General protocols,
Excited Delirium/Agitated Chaotic Events, LEADS, Taser, OC, baton & handcuffing)
which were then followed up by topic specific instructors on a small group or
individual basis to reinforce the information as well as meet the physical Taser
standard of deploying cartridges.
Professional Development Trainings
In 2020, the Training Division sent 61 officers to training schools, classes,
conferences, and seminars despite the COVID cancellations and restrictions. Officers
were sent to the following training courses; bike patrol, Excited Delirium and Agitated
Chaotic Events instructor, Force Science certification, Biased Based Policing, NASRO
SRO certification, SRO Response to Critical Incidents, Motor-Tac for motorcycle
officers, LEADS, Crisis Intervention Team Training, Crisis Response and Recognizing
Mental Illness, NRA Pistol Instructor, and ARIDE.
Additionally, the Cranston Police Department contracted with Daigle Law Group for
the Path of the Guardian virtual training which provides timely and relevant law
enforcement topics and discussion year-round to each officer.
Understanding that the Cranston Police Department works cohesively with the civilian
staff, the Training Division worked with Captain Henry to secure PowerPhone training
for Dispatch. This training provides current information on and techniques for many
