prosecutorial purposes, registering sex offenders who are required by law to register
with police departments of the city/town in which they reside, attending autopsies for
all death investigations and cataloging, storing, and returning all weapons held by the
police department. The unit itself is led by Sergeant Michael Patnaud, the evidentiary
custodian and the direct supervisor of the unit’s five detectives. Our BCI Detectives are
assisted by a civilian clerk, Ms. Laurie Chapman.
B.C.I. Productivity Report – By the Numbers
The BCI Unit processed fifty-six total crime scenes in 2021, where hundreds of pieces
of evidence were collected. This represents an approximately twenty percent drop in
need:
• 9 Rape/ Sexual assaults
• 3 Robberies
• 5 Aggravated Assaults
• 10 B&E’S
• 3 Larcenies
• 15 Recovered stolen vehicles
• 2 Arson
• 4 Vandalism
• 4 Weapons Offenses
• 16 Drug overdose deaths
• 5 Fatal vehicle traffic crashes
• 3 Motor vehicle accidents
• 18 Deaths
