However, the K9 Unit was still productive and trained to meet the highest standards.

The teams began training with the RI State Police K9 Unit in February 2020 and have

continued this collaboration through 2021. The combined training is being conducted

to provide maximized K9 coverage throughout Rhode Island for any municipality that

may need K9 assistance. Each of the K9 teams has maintained national certification

with the North American Police Work Dog Association through 2021.

The CPD K9 unit has continued to preserve its bonds within the community by

conducting its ever-popular demonstrations throughout the state. In 2021, they

performed demonstrations at the citizens' police academy, numerous schools within

the city, and at the National Night Out.
