The Office of Community Outreach in 2020
A Summary of Efforts: The Cranston Police Department's mission is to establish and
maintain a proactive partnership with our residents and business owners and
genuinely work together to solve problems facing our community. We can achieve the
Department's mission by fostering collaborative relationships between our agency and
the individuals, groups, and organizations in our community that serve to develop the
initiatives and solutions to our society's problems while increasing public trust in the
police. Our mission supports a comprehensive and multifaceted community policing
strategy of engaging our community whenever and wherever possible. In November of
2014, the Cranston Police Department took the step to create a new office known as
the Office of Community Outreach. The purpose of this office is straightforward: the
Office of Community Outreach is responsible for the strategic planning and
establishment of intervention strategies and education programs to prevent crime
throughout the City of Cranston; as well as the development of partnerships with
individuals who live, work, or otherwise have an interest in the community.
Community Meetings
The Office of Community Outreach had several community meetings scheduled for
2020. In February of 2020, at the request of Councilperson Vargas, the Department
attended a meeting of Ward 1 constituents. Due to pandemic restrictions and all other
events were eventually canceled by the hosts.
Y.M.C.A. Partnership
The Department participated in the annual Trunk or Treat event at the Y.M.C.A.;
however, we modified the event into an outdoor drive-through. Even with the need to
change the format of the event, it was well attended and successful. The annual Show
