In years past, the S.R.O.'s were responsible for attending their respective school's
extracurricular activities throughout the school year which included sporting events,
fundraisers, open houses, dances and graduations. When the Covid-19 Global
Pandemic began, the Cranston Public Schools (C.P.S.) was affected. On March 13,
2020, Cranston Public Schools, along with other cities and towns, closed as a
precaution. As a result of a student at Cranston High School West testing positive,
three S.R.O.s were quarantined as a precaution as well. As C.P.S. moved to a distance
learning model, the role of the S.R.O.s changed drastically and evolved to assist the
school's administrators in many ways. Some of the new tasks were:
• Completing well-being checks and follow ups at student's homes, per the
request of school administrators.
• Assisting C.P.S. with the distribution and collection of schoolbooks and
technology.
