the Shelter employees, our valuable non-profit partners, and volunteers, our
adoption rate was 98.8% for cats and 98.9% for dogs.
In 2019, physical improvements continued to be made to the interior and exterior
of the Shelter. The old exterior fiberglass roofing over the kennels were
completely removed and replaced with new blue metal roofing. In 2020 our goal
will be to have the entire shelter roof re-shingled, which is the last major project
on our list that we started three years ago.

             Detective Division

The Detective Division is the investigative branch of the Cranston Police
Department and is responsible for all secondary investigation of crimes that occur
within the boundaries of the City of Cranston. The Division consists of a Captain,
one Lieutenant, four Sergeants, thirty-two Detectives, four civilian clerks, and one
Law Enforcement Advocate. We are currently divided into four units: the Criminal
Investigations Unit (CIU), Special Victims Unit (SVU), Bureau of Criminal
Identification Unit (BCI), and the Prosecution Unit.

The mission of the Detective Division is to provide primary criminal investigative
support to the Department. Generally speaking, the Uniform Patrol Division takes
incident reports and if further investigation needs to be conducted, that case will
be forwarded to our Division for follow-up and closure. The Division is tasked with
the responsibility of investigating crimes including those involving domestic
violence, sexual offences, juvenile offenders or victims, vandalisms, and missing
             persons.

             Our investigators work closely
             with outside agencies to facilitate
our goal of reducing crime. We
             enjoy an exceptional working
             relationship with many other law
             enforcement agencies. These
             agencies include other local
             police departments, the Rhode
             Island State Police, and the
             following federal agencies and
             task forces: Federal Bureau of
             Investigation (FBI), Joint
             Terrorism Task Force (JTTF),
             United States Marshal Service
Sex Offender Task Force (SOLEMN), Internet Crimes Against Children Task
