Please note that there are three “alternate” positions on the juvenile hearing board
that are currently vacant. The board previously had nine total members but there were
two positions on the board that were eliminated at the end of terms completed in the
calendar year 2014.
The Juvenile Hearing Board is chartered to meet not less than once each month. The
juvenile offenders, and their families, are generally notified well in advance of their
hearing so that they may prepare accordingly. The notice advises the nature of the
offense, the time and place of the hearing, and the offender's right to be represented by
counsel at the offender's expense. The hearings are closed to the public.
Like much of our Department’s operations last year, the Juvenile Hearing Board was
also affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The board was able to adjust accordingly
and was still able to provide this valuable alternative to our City. The following is a
snapshot of the Juvenile Hearing Board’s activities during the CY 2020 to include the
date of the hearing, number of cases heard, charges heard by the board, as well as the
outcomes of the board’s deliberations:
Juvenile Hearing Board 2020

Firearms (1)
o Outcomes: 2 cases closed, 2 referred for essays and community
Service, 1 essay.
• February 4, 2020 – 6 cases heard, 1 return.
o Charges: Disorderly Conducts (5), Weapon Other than Firearm (1).
