Department Traffic Unit installs 10-15 car seats, on average, per week, in the form of a
free public service to the citizens of the City of Cranston and surrounding
communities.
C.A.R.E.
In addition to the “Blue Riptide” Enforcement Program, the City of Cranston has its
own version of traffic enforcement with the “C.A.R.E.” Program. C.A.R.E. stands for
Cranston Accident Reduction and Enforcement program. This program, which is
similar to the “Blue Riptide” Speed Enforcement Program, was re-implemented in 2015
to specifically target statistically identified areas through concentrated enforcement. It
is the responsibility of the Traffic Division Sergeant assess complaints and assign
traffic enforcement to those areas on a weekly basis.

Community Policing and Public Relations
In 2020, because of the pandemic, traffic officers were unable to teach the Senior
Driving Improvement class sponsored by AAA. It is a goal in 2021 to bring this service
back. The Motorcycle Unit of the Traffic Division was able to participate in some public
