Directed Enforcement
• With the restructuring of divisions within the agency in 2022, the
Uniform Division can now work with the Community Outreach and the
Traffic Divisions to alleviate citizens’ concerns regarding criminal activity
and traffic safety issues. The Patrol Division has worked with the City
Administration through the Community Outreach Unit to address over
50 constituent concerns ranging from quality-of-life issues to overnight
parking complaints. These concerns were addressed, monitored, and
documented throughout the year.
• A collaborated effort between these divisions is likely to reduce crime,
accidents, and problem areas within the city. Additionally, it will help to
establish and maintain a great working relationship with the members of
our community.
• By mapping out these areas of concern and identifying the types of
enforcement necessary, the Cranston Police Department will be able to
serve the community in a more efficient and collaborative manner.
Logistical Goals for 2022
• Increase DUI enforcement by increasing training for the frontline officers.
This would include training more officers as DRE’s and working with
traffic to increase DUI patrols in targeted areas.
• In 2022, a single, secured repository for patrol equipment, such as rifles,
radars, tint meters, lasers, etc. was established. A designated storage
room, with access restricted to supervisors only, was created to promote
greater accountability for the many pieces of equipment that are issued
each day.
