Recruitment & Hiring Process with Applicant Investigations
Although the hiring list was in place from 2021, the Training Division continued the
department’s objective of attracting quality applicants who are representative of the
City’s demographics for future applications. There were multiple events including the
Cranston Spring Festival, Cranston Fall Festival and CCRI Law Enforcement Career
Fair where the Training Division spoke with people interested in law enforcement
careers. In addition, Officer Cipalone remained assigned as the Recruitment Officer
and listed as the direct contact for interested people to ask questions about the
profession, the agency, and the hiring process.
Based on the needs of the Department, six extensive background investigations were
completed for the hiring of three new officers. Regarding the officers who needed to
attend the municipal academy, the Training Division prepared the officer to attend and
was the point of contact throughout the session. For the certified officers coming from
other agencies, the Training Division coordinated equipment and uniform needs. All
hired officers spent three days at Training prior to being assigned to their primary field
training officer.
Summary
Overall, the Training Division’s main goal was to provide members of the Cranston
Police with progressive training and equipment to produce officers who are
professional and well-respected in the community. To achieve this, the Training
Division maintained and created new relationships with outside organizations while
seeking education from a variety of professions. By doing so, the Cranston Police
Department has continued its role as a leader in local law enforcement while
protecting the residents of the City of Cranston.
