Due to emerging data and body camera videos, red dot pistol optics were investigated
for optional use by Cranston police officers. Based on the investigation of and testing
by pistol instructors, Special Reaction Team members and officers, it was determined
that the technology would benefit officers. Upon the Colonel’s approval, creation of
policy and officers attending training, officers will have the option of using red dot
optics, at officer cost, starting in 2023.
Community Programs & Events
The Citizens Police Academy was held from April to June in 2022. During that time,
15 law enforcement related classes featuring a variety of topics and instructors were
attended by 20 people. As with past classes, the attendees enjoyed the class
curriculum and the overall program. Based on their feedback and the support of the
CPD Administration, Training plans to provide a class for 2023.
